Medicinal cannabis products generally include one or both of two key components: tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). These components are responsible for most of the medicinal benefit of cannabis.
All medicines imported into, supplied in and exported from Australia must be entered in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG), unless special conditions apply. Any medicine not on the ARTG is considered an ‘unapproved therapeutic good’. Unapproved therapeutic goods can potentially be accessed using one of the access schemes administered by the TGA, including the SAS-B.
